The Mantra 84 is the newest member of the Mantra family, and while it's the narrowest ski in the lineup, don't mistake that for being the softest or most beginner-friendly. This is still very much a Mantra.

What separates the 84 from its wider siblings is how quick, nimble, and approachable it feels. Compared to the Mantra 88 and M7, it's easier to balance on, quicker edge-to-edge, and requires less effort to access its performance. It still delivers the grip, precision, and smooth feel Volkl is famous for, just in a package that feels more agile and responsive.

If the M7 is the charger and the Mantra 88 is the frontside specialist, the Mantra 84 is the athlete of the family.

At 84 mm underfoot, this ski lives in that gray area between frontside and all-mountain. It carves far better than most skis you'd consider all-mountain, yet has enough versatility to handle bumps, technical terrain, and occasional off-piste adventures when conditions allow. For skiers who spend most of their day on groomers but don't want to feel limited when it's time to explore, the Mantra 84 makes a compelling case.

The first thing you'll notice is how quickly it responds. The ski loves to be tipped on edge and rewards good technique with a clean, precise carve that feels incredibly connected to the snow. It has that signature Volkl smoothness that makes the ski feel planted and predictable, even when conditions aren't perfect.

Compared to the Mantra 88, the 84 is quicker, more energetic, and easier to maneuver. Compared to the M7, it's significantly easier to ski and far more focused on groomer performance than all-mountain versatility. As you move narrower within the Mantra family, the skis become more nimble, more energetic, and less demanding.

That said, this ski still prefers firm snow. Give it corduroy, hardpack, or chalky conditions and it absolutely comes alive. As the snow becomes deeper, softer, or more cut up, the wider Mantra 88 and M7 start to pull away. The Mantra 84 can certainly handle those conditions, but that's not where it shines brightest.

For skiers who prioritize carving performance but still want enough versatility for real-world skiing, the Mantra 84 hits a sweet spot. It's powerful without being overwhelming, energetic without feeling nervous, and precise without demanding perfection from its pilot.
